I got 2 cuttings from Lloyd they rooted and bud grafted but no bud growth. Another member bought me another one to graft the same thing. Completely healed but no visible bud at thd node. Maybe they will grow after a dormant season. Thankfully another member trusted me with a couple and I got a better one from Lloyd.

Mine were moldy too and in bad shape. Black Baca looks like California Brown Turkey from pictures I found. Alot of these will most likely turn out to be something all ready in circulation.

I think alot of these problematic cuttings are old wood, very little growth over the last few years, not well taken care of trees, so the nodes are not really active. The stem has to put alot of energy and time into making a whole new node, and alot of these cuttings being somewhat stunted will have a hard time doing that.
Many of the nodes on my cuttings from Marco had invisible nodes. He was very nice to give me an extra thin piece which I top grafted on 2 trees, and those were younger wood with good nodes . Those are the ones that took off right away. The others were slow to wake up or died. I've got some nice trees though. I'm feeling lucky

Personally, new or rare or whatever..... I like a fig with a story. When I introduced Nero di Rocca or Tropea, I thought it was important to give some background..... Even Vince#3 we can trace back to a backyard in west Toronto.... Mehdi's Favorite Fig and @figologist's father.... Rionon Santana and @Kid Fig striking gold with a SoCal weed. When it just comes out of thin air... I'm not suggesting this is a problem.... but for me, it's just so much less interesting. I appreciate the culture behind the fig...

I wander if Lloyd ever found a fig that wasn't special and brand new and rare.

Not sure about rare. But I find most figs special. Each special in there own way.
