Rabbiteye Blueberries

So these Pink Lemonade blue berries are ripe now. The flavor is interesting. Not really a blue berry flavor. It's tart and not very sweet. Tastes more like grape than blue berries. They might be sweeter if I hadn't been watering them so much. If someone doesn't like the taste of blue berries, they might like these. They are very big, but not a lot of them. I have heard that this variety does not produce a lot. It did produce ripe berries earlier than the Powderblue even though they both bloomed at the same time. Maybe the Powderblue is taking longer because it is loaded with tons of berries.

I have about a week or two left on mine until ripe, will update with flavor maybe it’s similar. I haven’t been watering as often though

I am just getting into growing blueberries and have only two varieties, Northland and North Blue. North Blue seems very productive. I haven't had a chance to taste any yet, as birds cleaned out both plants last year. Will have to do some protection this season.

I like those pink lemonade when they have the blush of pink on them.

Here is the Powder Blue. They are smaller than the Pink Lemonade but there is a lot more of them, and much better flavor. I think they will get bigger when they are ripe, that's what they did last year.

Those are good. Haven’t blown me away yet with taste or quantity
If you want to be blown away, you may want to try haskaps, aka honey berries. I grow 6 varieties and the whole family is crazy about them. They are like much larger blueberries with a much more intense flavor. Let them ripen until they fall off or almost fall off the bush and you will be wowed. I was.

Here is a pic of the Brightwell. I got it this year at Bob Wells nursery. It is small so I don't expect much from it this year. Next year it should do better. They have some larger blue berry plants at Bob Wells but this size was cheaper. So I have three types of Rabbit Eyes that all bloom at the same time. I recommend getting all Rabbit Eye so they can cross pollinate, but if they are varieties that don't bloom at the same time, then they won't cross pollinate. Even if both plants are Rabbit Eye, they may not be varieties that bloom at the same time.
