Plug-n-Play Method

I think I love you lol 😂. No I haven’t ever thought of that. That’s actually genius. Now I’m going to have to try wrapping the neck of the baggies with electrical tape instead and see how that works. Man I wish it was mid December again and I could try it now. I’ll have to wait until next season. This forum rocks. Great brainstorming of ideas. My goal has always been to figure out a way to help people root with higher success rates. Hate the feeling of spending allot on a cutting just to have it not make it in the rooting phase. Wanted to eliminate that feeling for as many people as I can.

One thing... and I know you wouldn't because of the way you roll. Don't use cheap tape. It doesn't stretch and seal well.

This stuff is off the hook

With the 3M 35 you can colour code! :)

Go to a store that carries a bunch and see which feel right for you.

Oh I learned how to roll from my gramps. He always told me you can pay to do something right the first time or you can cut corners to have something done the first time and then pay again to have it done right the second time. I’ll run to the hardware store by me and pick some of this stuff up.

I use twist ties to seal these up.

Also how do you deal with transplant shock from these root root cubes?
Keep checking them to make sure they do not dry out. I’ve never used twist ties but as long as they are not drying out before they root out then I’d say you got a good seal. These things are less prone to transplant shock. I dip them in my secret dip and then straight into their tree pots. I use a shot glass to punch in a hole in the soil. I don’t bury the plug to deep or to close to the top. I usually have about a half inch of soil above the plug. Other ways of pre rooting cuttings like sand you disturb the roots to much digging them up. That’s why most cuttings rooted in sand usually end up failing. Too many roots break and get damaged.

Yea I was a fan of sand until the transplant shock. You gotta soak down the transplant media if you’re doing sand. I’ll have to try the root riot cubes because I’m all about maximizing space.

The twist ties keep my fig pops sealed for like 2 months so they get a really good seal. I still prefer the 4x9 hybrids but I’m up for giving the root riot a try.

My Plug ‘N’ Play is a two part. First part is the cubes and the second part is the 4x9 hybrid modified fig pop to finish out the cuttings colonization of the tree pots.

Do you find your success has increased doing it this way?
This year I’m 200/200, previous year I was 150/150, and year before that I was 100/100. The previous years I was rooting single 50 count trays and was getting 25/50 success rates first couple years up until I fine tuned everything. I wanted to work the bugs out of the system before sharing it with others.

Can I just send you all my cuttings to root for me! :ROFLMAO:

I’m curious how well pre rooted cuttings would ship. Maybe there is a market for it. Like it’s not a rooted cutting / tree but it’s more than just cutting. Maybe I should sample shipping some. Call them deluxe cuttings or cuttings plus. All you have to do is pot them up.

I've only ever started with dormant or mid-season cuttings... I've rooted non-dormant cuttings weeks after clipping without too many issues. I'm not sure how good an idea it would be to ship once the roots have become active... but I've never tried it. For me that's the danger zone... the time between pre-root and when the plant is stable and mature.

I think I would have to ship ups 2 day air or something like that to get them from point A to point B as fast as possible.
