Plug-n-Play Method

Pretty cool! Thanks! Do you have a video demonstration of steps on how you prep cuttings/root riot before plugging and bagging them in small bags
Sadly I did that party before I decided to film things for everyone as I saw that the people I was instructing on how to execute my method were not really following my instructions to a exact T and thus it getting the same results that I get which sort of takes away from the methods success rates. So I was concerned that those who would watch and try it would then have failures instead of success. I’ve sadly run out of cuttings that are worth the time and expense to root indoors for me. So I will either have to wait for someone locally that has 50 cuttings for me to root and I can film it or will have to wait until next season to winter root.

Oh ok. Thanks. But how much water do you put/soak the root riots before placing the cuttings inside

Whats in these? Is it just peat?. I started using 100% peat and powder hormone for rooting taped tight in sandwich snack bags and have had really good sucess id say above 90% but i dont keep track. The moisture is the one thing that is a big variable for me....knowing they are premoistened is awesome i may have to try them. Is there myco and stuff in these? I couldnt find the spec

I’ve done this with Promixhp in the summer as well. Personally the root riot plugs are far superior in my opinion. They are basically peat moss that has been turned into this really nice sponge like texture that roots love. They are perfectly moistened with distilled water so they are ready to go and as sterile as can be right out of the bag. They eliminate the issues most people have with over or under hydrating their medium. There is no micro or any of that in there and do not add that stuff to the plugs. These are to pre root only and once you pout the up int a tree pot or what ever you wish to use that is the point you neat to introduce stuff like mycos but I always will recommend great white shark as it is a superior product.

Thanks thats generally what i do preroot them with a cell of comoressed peat. the moisture is deffinetly the biggest variable i find in this method. Very cool they are perfectly set. I wonder if they screen the peat to get it real fine to make that spongey texture. Thats about what i water til, til i squeeze it no drips and sounds like a sponge.
BUt if these work that good i may have to make it easier for me and just get those.
Thanks for info.

No problem. I’ve tried all the brands out there like rapid rooters and even rockwool. I like the root riot brand best. I’m sure they do something at the factory that is top secret. For winter I will use the root riot for pre roots but come summer for outdoor rooting I’ll do what you did with filling a cell tray with PromixHP and place it under a shade tree so no direct sun at all. Usually 2 weeks and they all rooted out and ready for uppot. I’ll spray them with the hose as soon as I see the Promix go from a dark to a light color durring the rooting process. You can practically root cuttings in concrete come summer.

Yea i stuck a few in a pot of peat last year and just sprayed them with the hose they all rooted 🤣

I’m experimenting with the Plug N Play method this year. Nearly three weeks in and I just noticed roots on 7 of the 50 cuttings.

I did make mistakes by not checking the moisture level of the cubes for over a week and may have close to 10 cuttings that have dried out. The bags all had condensation but the cubes themselves were dry. Lessons learned.

Since the Root Riot cubes are very small, it looks like pencil thick (or slightly thinner) cuttings are ideal. Short cuttings seem to root well in these cubes as well.

Aside from redipping cubes you can also get a syringe and inject the baggies directly into the cubes a little bit of distilled water as that may be easier and far quicker. You won’t have a seal but if they are drying out then you do not have a seal to begin with. You may have to inject them more than once but that should help the cubes keep moisture. Usually minimum 2 weeks is what it takes for roots to shoot. You should be able to root thick or thin cuttings. I’ve rooted logs of 2 year old wood. The key is to catch them from drying out in the beginning if the veggie did not get a good seal. A local grower came up with the strange trick @Knightfigs and he send me some pictures let me see if I can attach them. He as well had not gotten a good seal so he injected the cubes and boom problem solved for him.
