Yep, easy to find and has a tasty main crop. There are others. But not as easy to find.i was suggested capri-q when i asked this
Capri Q is a good one that is easy to find and has a tasty main crop. That is why I recommend it so much. Many other good ones out there. But I won't recommend a fig that is hard to find.Interested as well but if I have nothing better else to do during the growing season, sure I'll do some hand pollinating.
@GoodFriendMike, is crapi-q the one to rule them all?
I did not get any mammoni/main crop from mine yet. It produced some. But the animals got them first. But I am thinking it is going to be a good pollen fig an not an edible one.@GoodFriendMike is GXY edible or strictly for pollen?
Cool beans. Now Ik not to bite into one lol.I did not get any mammoni/main crop from mine yet. It produced some. But the animals got them first. But I am thinking it is going to be a good pollen fig a not an edible one.
That is a good one.St Anthony’s Persistent Caprifig has been a consistent pollen producer for the past 2 years. I’ll have more trees available this coming spring if you’re still looking for one then.
It does have an edible crop. Which is a plus.I'm rooting Saleeb at the moment. Not looking to breed or care If edible. Hopefully in the next year or two it'll produce some usable pollen.
Same I just got some cuttings of saleeb and some lsu dc7 hopefully to try next year. But I have a question.. if you have to wait till you have good figs to pollinate with, won’t it be too late to pollinate some early varieties? Also when is the right time to pollinate? How small or big should a fig be?I'm rooting Saleeb at the moment. Not looking to breed or care If edible. Hopefully in the next year or two it'll produce some usable pollen.
Good question. I'm not sure tbh. Do the profichi develop early enough in the season to take and use pollen for mid and later ripening varieties. Is dime, nickel or quarter sized figs that are the right size to pollinate?Same I just got some cuttings of saleeb and some lsu dc7 hopefully to try next year. Did you pick up DC-7 this year?I’m hoping to have 50+ trees of lsu dc2 by spring to share at a great price. Seems it went quite high for a while this fall. I would be asking $50 tops including shipping for a 4x9 and hope enough get out there by the end of next season it’s easy to find. I will also be doing this with lsu dc6 by end of next year. My dc2 was 3x the size of the dc6 after the second season because dc2 got a 25 gallon container and dc6 got a 10 gallon.
I haven’t yet. I’m so full with figs right now I decided to hold off buying this year. I’d love to have it but until spring comes around I’m waiting.Did you pick up DC-7 this year?
I am trying to hold off buying (many) as well. I need to concentrate on seedlings. But always good to have more breeding stock on hand.I haven’t yet. I’m so full with figs right now I decided to hold off buying this year. I’d love to have it but until spring comes around I’m waiting.
