On Death's Door...but still rooting?!

They said it was over… but this cutting disagrees.
This is my third attempt at rooting DTE—currently sitting at a proud 0 for 2 this season. Naturally, I declared this one “the charm” right out of the gate. And to be fair, it played along at first: buds swelling, leaves popping, even a few roots making an appearance like it actually had plans to live.
Then came the crash. Everything stalled. No new roots, the existing ones browned out, and the cutting started wrinkling into that all-too-familiar reddish-brown “impending doom” phase we all know and dread. A scratch test at the soil line sealed it—or so I thought—peeling back like a ripe banana. Not exactly reassuring.
And yet… 3-4 weeks of absolute silence a new leaf decides to emerge like it didn’t get the memo. Now it’s sitting in the ICU, somehow pushing out a few fresh white roots like a last-minute comeback montage.
So here we are… miracle in progress, or just a long term psychological experiment??

With fig cutting like that, I've learned to get that sucker in the ground (in shade) asap and leave it alone and it will survive. It's roots will go where they need to go. I think nature has a better way of creating a stable 'natural' environment than we do with our meticulous fig cutting setups.

Do they need shade? Will it harm them to be in full sun if trying to propagate in full sun?

I'm definitely interested to see if this one makes it or not.
Honestly I'll be surprised if it does.
But I've seen some survive I didn't think would in the past.

Keep the updates coming please. 😁
