Nice surprise in the garden this morning

@paupau

Pretty nifty! I don’t see why it wouldn’t work. Hopefully this year gives some good data.

I moved to North Carolina from Southern California in 2024. This will be my first garlic harvest here if it succeeds. I didn't do the math but I think we're close to or beyond the hardneck cutoff here in NC, so I refrigerated the bulbs before planting, just in case. (We had a really abnormally cold winter here though, so it probably would have been okay without refrigeration.) We'll see how they turn out.
Welcome to NC CDH. I think I read yesterday we are the #3 state for incoming residents. Hope to meet you someday. We are north of Hickory. Yes, we can have that trampoline weather in Spring. My garlic was way up in winter and turned a little brown at 12* but greened back up when warmer.

Ive got the same soil knife! Life got in the way this winter so I just planted my garlic today. Hoping for at least some decent sized bulbs come July. Last year I had a really bad season and half the crop started dying early in Mayish.
The new AM Leonard spring catalog I just got in the mail has the Garden Knives. Here’s the knives and prices.
