I picked a couple of Negra d'Agde today. I even remembered to take pictures!
This is a tree in its third leaf, but I started it very late in its first year. Had a few figs last year, but they didn't ripen in time. This year, the tree is doing great and I will probably get 8 or 10 figs off of it. I think it will fruit much better next year, since it seems to be coming into its own.
I actually picked two figs, because one was splitting, but that one was really under ripe. The other one was pretty ripe...maybe could have used another day, it was pretty soft and looked like it was starting to split...but I probably should have left it another day. That being said, I thought it was very good. It has a pretty strong berry flavor, with maybe a hint of cherry (I am not very good at the finer points of describing and picking out the sub flavors like some people are)...definitely a very good berry flavor and very sweet. I liked the texture. It was a bit jammy inside. As I mentioned, it is its first year to give mature/ripe figs. I have a feeling that it will get better as it matures. Overall, a good fig.
I think next year I am going to try to pollinate a few and see if there is a big difference or not.
