ZUCCHINI! My very first ever. Just not sure if it’s male or female and there’s another flower coming next to it. No squash bugs so far.

That looks like a perfectly delicious zucchini you're growing. Just remember don't grow too big a zucchini or you won't like the flavor, it gets bitter.

The squash vine borers get us every year. I love zucchini and squash. My grandparents made the best fried squash. Would take forever to make a plate of them to serve because my grandfather would eat them as fast as they were done. Good memories

I think that's a crane fly. Adults are harmless; larvae feed on decaying plant matter and sometimes roots. Birds and lizards like to eat 'em.

How do you keep it from covering everything? I had it once in a raised bed and it went all the way to the other bed. I tried stake it up vertically but the wind snapped it.

Yes, wonderful that you noticed them. I planted seeds around the entire edge of the bed only 10 days ago. My husband got me the soil from someone who got it from someone who grows mushrooms. Well it must be really good type of soil because my tomatoes, zucchini and marigolds are just taking off.

The zucchini above, I just took another look at it and seems they are going to be yellow ones. I planted yellow and green.
