My MP so far takes pretty significant winter damage but grows aggressively even from die-back. Many of the new shoots this year already have double bumps so I am at least somewhat hopeful for a crop of figs later this season.

Last year was my first year getting to try the figs and I have some observations / questions I would like to open discussion about. My figs Looked dry on the inside, but on eating it, it had a pleasantly sweet, sticky mouthfeel. All the rave reviews I’ve read about the variety talk about its jamminess, but that isn’t how I’d describe mine… that said, though, I chalked it up to being the first time that got fruit from it.

I’d love to get all of y’all’s experience on what sounds like a great fig that goes back and forth on being talked about and not…

It will get better with age as they all do.
My first year I wasn't really that impressed and almost got rid of it.
But kept it around and now I'm glad.

This year I'm hoping to taste Motoso Preto, And many others of course. lol
 
Let 1 sit for a day or 2 on your counter or wherever after you pick it to let it get rich n jammy. If it's dry like this, a day or 2 can really help it come along. Just had a Florea breba increase 10x in quality after forgetting about for a few days lol
 
The fig was probably picked a bit early, even though it was ripe/soft. It probably could use a few more days. I tend to pick them right before they fall apart so I am usually fighting with critters/ants/flies etc. And then, we all know about fruits from first year trees. Most are less quality with a few exceptions.
 
My tree is 3rd leaf and producing 6-8 breba this year and is loaded with main crop figs. The breba were very good and last years main crop was very sweet and tasty. It is definitely a keeper for me.
 
I haven’t gotten a properly ripened Moscatel Preto yet—this one from last year in early September from a year-old tree was not memorable. It looks dry like yours does, but they sure are big!IMG_1917.jpeg

This year’s main crop is setting now, and looks promising. I expect the flavor to improve as the tree ages.

It’s been nearly a month and I’m pretty stunned with how vigorous this variety is! It was winter killed to the ground and began sprouting in early May. In just shy of 3 months, you can see the growth it put on so far this season. I pinched the tops of the branches I staked upright a couple weeks ago to keep them from growing too tall and they’re at around 5 feet of height…

I'm curious... the very first pic in this thread... is that in a car? I love that you couldn't wait to get wherever you were going to eat the fig! :D
 
It’s one of my favorite varieties that just started ripening main crop today. Buttery sweet flesh that tends to get jammier as the season progresses especially thick in cooler weather.
