Late Season I-258

It's tragic that we can't "unsee" images.....  I'm going to wake up in cold sweats with this burned into my brain

I am jealous. My 6-year old I-258 barely survived last winter in 10g pot. It died to the soil line and didn't put out any new growth until late July. I was just glad to see it pull through. No fruit for me this year, so I will just enjoy your photos. I'm glad you shared them

Vito..... Looking at the forecast I likely won't be wrapping the in ground trees until early November earliest. The ground keeps them warm. They're still wide awake. I let them get hit by a frost so they drop the leaves on their own.

I was just up in Barrie a few days ago and it was nice out... Why is it so cold at your place?

Joe,
Approximately, how many figs did you get off your I-258 tree this season?
Mine is still very young but it grew into an 8’ tall tree in a single season and got me three delicious figs (about a dozen or so did not ripen). I have high hopes , and I am already looking forward to next summer.

I got dozens of figs from it but it was a slow year. I got a late start. Normally I'm up to my ears much earlier because I put up a tent greenhouse around it to wake it earlier. I had a problem with my hand in early March so it went straight out of winter protection.

The tree is big and solid now. Grew to maybe 3 meters and the trunk is super thick.  I'll try to remember to get some fresh pictures tomorrow.

@"TorontoJoe"#1 . I'm looking forward to seeing this i-258 tree as well. You definitely have some wonderful looking inground fig trees Joe...

Reading your post Joe we were adding up just how many i-258 we lost this year. It didn't seem to matter where the cuttings came from the variety just did not survive. We lost four cuttings from three different sources. Sadly it's holding the record here.

Lol the first thing I thought when I seen your pic of the figs was it looked like a huge smile...it blossomed from there. :D

That's what happens when you're over tired...the mind goes to weird places. lol

A case of stenosing tenosynovitis that got so bad it required surgery. I’m back to 95% now but it got me 4-6 weeks behind this spring while I was recovering. It’s a real bummer because I have so much fruit and vegetables that would’ve been completely ripe with just another couple of weeks.

I’m crossing my fingers that I’ll get back tonight while theres still enough light to take some pictures. I’ll do my best
