Last Minute Measures

Do I think it’ll help with the single digit temperatures coming this week, who knows?

As of now, I have 2 trees protected with straw and house wrap, 2 trees (pictured) with piled mulch and 6 trees unprotected. My unprotected AJH is definitely a goner since the branches never lignified before the first cold temperatures arrived.

Hope this helps, I looked at my in grounds yesterday, they don't look bad so far.
More freezing temp are coming though.
@ktrain are you getting any bad weather from the new storm? When it reaches me tomorrow we’re getting 3-5” of snow. We still have about 2 inches still on the ground from last last storm. Ryan just put an update an hour ago.

Last night we were hit with a good amount of rain, but temps are very nice today, tonight low is 35.
Then...it's all down hill lol
We get down to 15 for like 3 nights, with a chance of snow Tuesday.
We shall see.

Is mounding more dirt around them an option? Short of adding heat under a cover, I'm not sure what else would help. Even Christmas lights under a tarp would keep the harsh winds off a bit.

@wyanokie - thanks, I have a secondary potted AJH in the garage.

@TorontoJoe - I’m not anticipating anything at this point, good or bad. I found two bags of pine bark mulch buried in the shed yesterday and piled one per tree. Worst case, I’ll get a good comparison of what methods worked the best, or at all - minimal bark mulch, straw/wrap and nothing, as the trees are same age and located close to each other in backyard. I’m not as concerned with trees on south side of home.

Lastly, Go Birds.
