Kuromitsu

I would be hesitant spending any real money on this variety. It is my understanding the Japanese have distinctly different tastes with regards to figs than we do in America. At least a significant portion of the population likes to eat the figs under ripe as a delicacy. Its a special treat, probably more like symbol of status in society.

My unbiased, moderately educated opinion is that this variety will not live up to the hype, or even close.

My unbiased,
Sounds like something someone would say to keep the prices low 😆😆

This variety may not be the best. But I would think it would be good for breeding. Always good to have new traits to work with. Japan is very particular. I will always watch what they are growing. Very respectful and true people.
Does anyone know how long kuromitsu has been grown in Japan?

I have great respect for their culture and agricultural practices. They are some of the most disciplined and well though out practices in the world. I just question whether their tastes with figs matches that of the mainstream here in the USA.

Never heard of it until now.
I suppose in the last couple years my research has slowed due to being too busy.
I have seen some videos where they pick figs that appear to be under ripe, but don't know what they do with them afterwards.

Figs grown for commercial purposes are rarely “good” enough for us collectors.
These where pretty damn good. They are commercially produced. I saw the cartons.

Ya man, living in California I’m well acquainted with the dept of ag! Had several plants confiscated or returned back to sender - none have showed up at my front door yet but I’m not surprised if my name is on their poop list lol

Hopefully no fines were passed along as well?
