Just remembered what time it is

We haven't really had any substantial winter to speak of here in my area of Indiana. Hoping we get a little snow at some point, but so far it's been relatively warm and wet, and the outlook still is warmer rather than cooler.

Don’t forget, the 21st is not only the solstice but it’s the 1st day of winter. It’s only actually just beginning. In my life’s experience January is the coldest month of winter but February is the BANG SHOT month of winter. Soon as you think winter is starting to wind down all of a sudden BANG a surprise BLIZZARD always hits. A storm of a decade size blizzard. Never turn your back on February. Ahhh the joys of winter.

Yeah, it's wild how quickly the days get longer after the solstice! I love seeing everything come back to life in spring. Those fig trees are gonna be so happy soon! Can't wait to see some fresh figs again.

I'm ready for the warmth, I find the older I get the less I like the cold.
And my chickens have slowed down on the egg production....for the first time in years I had to go buy eggs before Christmas.
So the need to glass your eggs during summertime and fall. 😉

On a more practical note. I will never forget some sage advice that I got many years ago from Pino on a visit to his orchard in the Niagara region. He said that if you plan to extend your season with a greenhouse or shuffling or whatever, it's best to get the head start in the spring instead of trying to lengthen into the fall. Even if you can keep the figs warm, the shorter days make it more difficult. If you're depending on the sun for light... wake them up early!
