Just moved 250 trees

I recently moved around 250 trees (185 varieties) to my new home in Paris, Ontario (zone 7b). This weekend, I pulled 70 trees out of the ground from my Figgatorium. Next year, I plan to plant as many as possible, using an espalier method to keep them low and easier to cover during winter.

I bought this property specifically to start a fruit orchard. Along with figs, I’ll be planting about 100 additional fruit trees of various types and varieties. What’s everyone’s favorite fruit tree (besides figs)?

Hey Brother! You're in Paris now? Did you bring the greenhouse or was that too much? I'm assuming you have a lot more room now

Yah totally! About 1.5 acre but I can use almost all of the space whereas the last place I couldn't use the front and half of the backyard..

I sold the greenhouse with the last place as I marked it as a turnkey hobby Farm.

The figatorium was a great experiment but I'm not too sure about doing something like that again. It was a constant battle with rodents and insects.

I did learn that these trees really want to be in the ground and I think they're a lot more resistant to cold with the proper care.

I think this espalier method should work.

Yah lots more fruit trees! Apple peach pear kiwi grape haskap paw paw persimmon cherry and all the berries!🥰 What else??

I can't speak to the insects but for the rodents...... Check out the Working Cat Program

You can get lots of them and give them a good home where then can just be cats!

I was thinking someone really needs to grow some of those cold hardy persimmons here.

Yah I definitely wanted to adopt a barn cat but I lived on a busy street and I live on another busy street now so I'd really hate to see it get hit.

Cold hardy persimmons definitely on the list!

I'd have a bunch. I really like cats. I think if you keep food around for them they''ll protect it and stick near the barn or greenhouse. I had a buddy with a greenhouse near Peterborough... the cats never wanted to leave. It was toasty and they had food and water... so they just hung out and killed rodents

Yah I really like cats too I should consider it.

Two sides of me are cow fields one side is a forest and across the street is a field for horses.

For sure all is welcome to come visit 🥰 I'll post some pics next year when they're in the ground.

Looks like you're only about 1.5 hours from me.... but that's Sunday night and no traffic.

Do you still have chickens? I'm really jealous of that.

Got rid of the chickens when we went to Italy last year. Didn't get them again because I knew we'd be moving. But this place came with a brand new coop! So I'll be getting them again in the spring for sure. Probably not 165 like last time 😆😆 5-10 for sure. Still have lots of chicken manure.

Dude! 165!?!? That's a lot of poop!

They were some good eggs though!

Saskatoons, purple passion fruit.

Thanks, I'll check them out!
Also Goumi (Elaeagnus hybrid) - I like Tillamook. Bigger berries smaller seeds. For the Saskatoons (Juneberries, Serviceberries) - Autumn Brilliance for fruit and display more treelike but medium in size. Smokey for best tasting fruit - more bush like.
