Shows you how much I need to learn, I always thought bees pollinated everything.

Bees and other insects do the heavy lifting but having the other tree nearby will help them distribute the pollen.

If I’m not mistaken, and someone please correct me here if I am. If cross-pollination is needed, can a graft of a different variety on the same tree not serve that purpose?
 
That's some of the slickest tree packaging I've ever seen!

I can't imagine they'd send you one apple tree that you need a pollenator for..... Maybe I missed it. Did it say what variety apple it is? Even if not, have a look around. If you see other apple trees.... even crabapple will work as a pollenator. (I've been told)
I sent them an email asking what variety but I will also give them a call tomorrow.
