Is this a Black Cherry ?

Been out working every day in my gardens...lots of winter/spring cleanup to do. My friends say to me often, where do you get your energy ? I'm like, my garden GIVES me energy!

Saw this blooming, why have I never noticed it before. Is it a Black Cherry , and if it is, the only use I see when I google it is that it is a wonderful larval host for many species of butterfly.

I'm in East TN.

Looks like it. Seems like the differentiating feature between black cherry and chokecherry is black cherry has longer thinner leaves. Vs chokecherry has a rounded leaf.

Looks like wild black cherry to me. I see them and have always been told that while eidble, they're very bitter.

I thought about growing something sacrificial to try to keep them at bay...but nets will have to suffice. lol

Chokeberry or chokecherry? Aronia goes by chokeberry but are completely different from chokecherry. Just curious which one you mean for sure

Ok chokeberries=aronia berry here. Black cherry and choke cherry are similar but if I remember right both have similar flowers but the fruit when mature and leaves are different

Yes Chokeberries is the common name for Aronia Berry. I used the common name. The tree I was questioning is growing in an odd section of our property, and I had never seen it bloom so I questioned what it was. It is a Black Cherry.

They are in the super food grouping.
Higher antioxidants than blueberries.
You have to mix them in stuff to consume....at least i do. lol

I eat them fresh in the garden but only when super ripe and only one at a time. I ate a handful at a time once and let me tell you I’ve never had a harder time swallowing than that. The driest fruit known to man and gets the name chokeberry for a reason lol

I freeze them and use them in smoothies or mix with blue berries and make pancakes.
They aren't too bad eaten frozen too.
