Inground Project zone 4-5

I’ve learned more recently that pruning back to really old wood on in ground trees really slows things down. I’m back to working harder to protect younger budding wood so it can fruit earlier…..

I’m also hoping the ground heat waking them up earlier will help with this.
I’m curious to know what’s your progress on the ingrounds? Just like to compare on what stage it’s at. Is it starting to show fig bumps and can you show us some photos.

Figs start to form on my inground trees ~4-5 weeks after the first leaves get to full size. Looking at your earlier photos from mid-May and mid-June, I’d reason that your tree got its first full leaves around June 1, which should put fig formation between now and early July. Maybe add another week or so due to cooler temperatures up there.
Do you have an inground comparing my situation?

Here is the stage my inground is at. I believe it woke up a bit later than yours.

Hey Mick you got an inground wow. What are you doing to winterize?
I'm using Joe's method, but keeping it smaller. Basically cut it back enough that I can add the heat cable and sandwich it between 2 batts of R24 Rockwood. The problem with this method is I can't really keep any green wood, but it keeps the main trunk above 2 degrees all winter.

I can't recall what you did, I think you gave them a shuffle, right? Or did you put them in a greenhouse?

The shuffle is too time consuming for me. Two pop-up greenhouse with a heater on a temp controller. Just Inkbird units with little ceramic heaters. Over the in-ground trees and all the container trees get piled in. Still way more work than I care for but it's just one heavy lift of a day for put up and another for tear down
