I'm heartbroken, will these recover?

We put these plants in the shed yesterday afternoon before the freeze. This morning my husband took them back out around 8:30 and they were absolutely fine. Then about 1 1/2 hrs ago they did this. They're all wilted except 1 tray of peppers and 1 basil plant. Wonder why they survived. The stems of the tomato plants are beautiful healthy just the leaves are wilted. Will they grow more leaves?IMG_20250409_132139563_HDR.jpgIMG_20250409_132230944_HDR.jpgIMG_20250409_132328688_HDR.jpg

What were the temps in the morning? Tomatoes are very cold sensitive and anything below 55 usually stunts or kills them 😢

We were due to drop to 32. We spent all day covering and moving.....but I knew I couldn't cover my big peach, and only half of our kiwi. We didn't get a frost !! I would trim the tomatoes back, and see what happens. I wouldn't leave all that dead foliage on them though.

I did what you suggested, trimmed them back. We put them now in the laundry room in front of the sunny window. Funny how there's one tomato plant that didn't wilt. Must be cold hardy.IMG_20250409_161608787.jpg

I think your tomatoes will live, but they might be stunted and/set back. You may consider going to your local nursery to pick up a few backups to keep an earlier harvest.

You were right after I removed the wilted leaves they’re all growing back. Thanks for the suggestion.
