I have a problem.

Everyone should grow a fig tree. I am now spreading a few to my husband's tax clients. I am surprised how many people around here don't have one. I live in the greatest climate for figs ever (well it could be better if I were on the Mediterranean.. but I'm losing the battle to move to The South of Italy, so that's probably not going to happen)

I am about to start sharing with my wife’s coworkers. One was excited when he heard I grew figs. Come to find out he has a fiddle leaf fig ☹️. I think I’m going to have my wife drop one of my duplicates off on him and have her tell him he can eat from this one lol. Reminds me I need to remind her coworker to get me a pot for the aloe Vera I’m going to give her 😩

So to start off I already have more trees and a wider spectrum of varieties than I ever planned to have. I’m already having to get more medium and pots. Welp I keep catching myself thinking about cuttings next year, before I smack myself back to reality lol. Anyone else have this problem?
Started with 2 trees in 2023....now have about 30 plus a few cuttings!

I also branched out and got several pom varieties!

I keep planting, mulching, laying down bricks for the garden beds...

Then i decided to add 4 grape vines and that was a new project.

Figs are a gateway drug to gardening

If not for the fact that I also grow peppers and carnivorous plants (way more of each than I should), my fig addiction would have exploded two years ago. Now I'm working to downsize my potted collection from 14 to 10 and I can only work my way down to a list of 12 before I start getting flustered! It's hard to let go of these trees when they have sentimental value!

I am also in the same boat as many of you. I have been blessed this year with many cuttings from you good people and I am loving it. My dad, however, isn't nearly as amused 😅

I told him I was moving the fig tree and his eyes went wide with concern, asking, "where to?" 😂

Well, as we care for him in his old age, I think he will grow to love the fresh figs... and the dried figs... and preserves... and fig cake, etc.

My 2 and 4 year olds each picked out a cutting to be "their tree" and it has them so excited about figs. They ask about them every day and want to help every chance.

I also went into November with 3 figs and if all my cuttings root I will be at 101... 😬
my 3.5 year old daughter has picked out a cutting that is going to be her tree as well. She is enjoying watching the cuttings grow, but is mostly excited to be eating fresh figs again.

Yes. Yes I do. 😃

Me too... I started this season with about thirty young trees in the containers, and now I both hope and fear that I may end up with over 50 by next winter. Which means more pots, more soil, and most importantly, more space and fig shuffling in and out of garage come spring and winter.

The second problem that i'm facing now is that some of my 2nd year trees are beginning to wake up and pushing leaves and figlets, because of that long cold spell we had, which necessitated that I bring my fig trees into the basement, where it was warmer. So now my living room is turning into greenhouse, wth cuttings, up potted cuttings, and 5-7 gallon one year trees sitting on every surface that is getting light.

Good Lord, what have I done?!?!??!

BTW: my husband is a Saint - as all of your spouses! 🥰😍
This makes me feel happy!! You are not alone!

I am glad someone posted about this insanity! I’m just starting out … never tasted a fig yet I know In my Gut it’s going to be amazing.
I Started with 2 plants ( that didn’t ripen fruit this summer- first year) and now I counted at least 70 cuttings going!!!Thanks to many generous cutting gifts from members and also some purchases… I think I may have to get a greenhouse this fall and figure that out as I go. Duplicates should they survive will be gifted To family and friends… and my school. Yet I am thinking 🤔 about how fun this summer is going to be!
Yaaassss!! Love this!!

Have you had to deal with any "I want to eat figs but dont want to wait for them to grow" temper tantrums? Cause thats super fun at 7:30 am 🤣
Thank dog that is not a problem. Although she recently discovered daddy had a stash of good dried figs so those are gone.. I guess that is better than a tantrum over something I have zero control over.

Lucky! I have also had to deal with temper tantrums cause the kid wanted to go harvest corn in January... I'm thrilled that he has taken an interest in gardening but we are limited to fig cuttings for a few more weeks.

Oh I need to get you pics then!! I have 2 trays full of peppers and 2 trays full of tomatoes in the outdoor mini greenhouse, 2 more trays full of tiny starts in my garage seedling house. Lol!! I like to grow what you cannot find anywhere else. 😃
Yes sir. Pics would be great. Especially of those you cannot find anywhere else. :)
