I-258... The Beauty

Lots of I-258s have ripened over the past few super hot days... Lots are dripping honey... I may be wrong, but I think the heat made them taste a bit worse than usual. Almost as if they ripened too hastily and didn't develop enough flavor.

I believe I have had some like that, they look amazing but like you said they lack the punch.
I don't really like them when they are hot either. lol
I usually allow mine to hit room temps.
Mine seems to require lots of water, or it drops easily if it gets too dry.

So sad I lost my I-258 this past winter - it was one of 3 of my potted trees that totally died in my back yard shed that I thought would be more protective than it was 😒

Oh man!!! Now thats a beauty!!!! My grafted I-258 has few figlets but they are still small, hoping to ripe this season and finally get a taste

It is not your imagination that too much heat may overaccelerate fruit development to the point that seriously affects its flavor. I even tried to move the plants indoors at night to cool them down and see if that makes a difference. I can't imagine I am doing fig shuffling in the middle of summer.

LOL summer shuffling. Now that I think of it, last September, I moved my I-258 and two Tia Penyas into my garage grow tent when we were going through a cold spell, especially at night. The unheated garage was very warm, and with the lights on, inside the tent, it would get crazy hot, close to 105-110F. All the figs started to ripen very rapidly, but I did not like the taste. So, after a few days, I pulled them out and brought them back outside.
