I-258 huge breba (113 gm!)

I’ve been eyeing this huge I-258 breba from my over 5-yr old potted tree. We’ve had so much rain, and the fig grew with the eye pointing at the sky. It was so big, I couldn’t put a cupcake clamshell on it.

I finally picked it today, and it was fabulous! Flavor spot-on like main crop, and the eye never split. Over 100-gm of deliciousness that weathered 1.5” of rain in the past 2 days without blinking an eye.

This is why I grow figs.

Wow ! Huge !
How long since fig initial ? How many days swelling ?
Is it in pot ?
This was a breba so I don’t have as good records on it. It wasn’t there when I put the tree away last season, and I moved it outside April 13th. It’s in a 15-gallon pot.

The first photo is from June 13, and I bagged it 3 days ago.

I’ve got more ripening, and I’ll try to keep better records. This one started swelling 2 days ago

And this started last night

Great looking fig. Very jealous. When I first started my fig journey, I got some cuttings and of course I did not know what I was doing and so I killed them. Good luck with the rest of the figs and tree.

That’s why we grow them ourselves. 1/2 -
day can matter with these wonderful treats. I think judging breba ripeness can be trickier than main crop (in addition to the fact that they can ripen unevenly). Great job and I’m glad you got to enjoy most of it.

OMG, thats nuclear, would do you feed them. I can’t wait for mine to ripen the main crop to see how big they get
Growing in pots, I rely on slow-release Osmocote Plus and Lime (the pelletized kind for lawns) and supplement w/Jacks 20-20-20 to get the green growing going quickly for faster fruit set (I have to prune heavily to fit my collection in my garage at winter). I only did about 3 application of Jacks this spring. We've had so much rain too, and that really helps with the growth.

In my experience, brebas tend to be bigger than main crop. My main crop is more in the 50 gm range than 100 gm.

Good luck with your tree--I'm sure it will be fabulous!

Thank you, I will take 50 grams any day. My I-258 is a grafted branch, first year fruiting but the figs still stuck at golf size and green, hoping to ripening sometime in Augest or early September. If the fruits are as good as everyone says, I will make it a tree

The fruits are among my favorites. This is one of my oldest trees (over 5 yrs), and I have it in a 15-gallon pot (which is as large as I go) which is a sign of how much I love it.
