USDA hardiness zones are of extremely limited value. There is vastly more to a local climate than the 10 year winter low.
Is Seattle even remotely the same as southern Alabama?

Protection is a big deal. Big difference between a standard method and a more strategic method. Keep me posted hope you still have an abundance of figs by the end of the season.
