High school cuttings update

So the Ag teacher contacted me today and sent a Pic of the cuttings I donated and their progress.

I am very pleased to see this...lo
& behold.

Not sure if they get to take any home.
But I'm going to see if he wants to keep doing them every year.

Totally, tugs on the heart stings knowing kids are learning this type of stuff in school.

That's great! I took a bunch of cuttings to the ag teacher at the high school where I worked. I don't think he made the effort to root them. What a shame because the school has a fruit orchard.

We have to be nonchalant about our propagating intentions and maybe we’ll have as much success as those kids.

Right! One cutting I stuck late and pretty much haven’t looked at has a green bud coming up tonight. Figures, I ignored it so it’s doing something.

I'll post some pictures tomorrow. Mine are still in cups, but doing well. I'm going to send them home next week.

If any member knows of a school agricultural program that needs cuttings for students to root and grow out, I have plenty of relatively common varieties (Chicago Hardy, LSU Purple, Brown Turkey, and others) I can provide.

This is one of the types of programs Papafig wants the Community Cuttings Giveaway Program to support and promote this year.

This is nice to see. I'm trying to send cuttings to an elementary school this Spring because despite being located in California there are no fig trees there. As a child gardening was one of the things that peaked my interest.

Thats amazing students to appreciate planting and growing things…. Also, they are way better than me in rooting cutting

@ktrain so what instructions did you give to the AG teacher so that the kids can propagate the cuttings.
Every spring, I make it a habit of buying plants from HS FFAs and would buy fig plants if the local HS have any for sale.
