Hand pollination solution

So I’ve got my first batch of pollen from lsu dc2, what is the recommended solution to use for injecting into figs. My brain says 5% sugar solution from memory of past posts. How much pollen, water, sugar in total? I’ll share a photo of the current collected pollen and it’s roughly a 1/4 inch wide pile of yellow dust lol.

The sugar is not needed. I have never measured the pollen but it takes very little.
Just make sure to shake the syringe before each injection.
The pollen does not mix well.

This is from a quick web search. There are many studies on it that you can find.

Pollen germination rates and tube growth were recorded periodically at 1, 12, 24, and 48 h. The results showed that sucrose imposes significant effects on pollen germination and tube growth. The effects are most obvious at concentration of 15%. Boric acid significantly promoted germination and tube growth.Jan 28, 2019

@GoodFriendMike

If not using sugar which does help suspend it in water, how do you get it in the syringe if its floating on the top of the source jar/bowl?
I have only done it once...I used sugar.
I was successful on half of the pollinated figs.

That's a nice amount of pollen, you can do a LOT of figs with that. :)

I keep the tip of the syringe at the very top of the water. You will be able to
see it sucking up the pollen film.

This is half of today’s solution I’m making. I have lsu dc2 and dc6. Both are making outstanding amounts of pollen. Enderud, Saleeb, capri Q dropped all profichi. Wild #1 and ucd #1 have a couple each but my lsu have about 50+ together.

Dang man that's awesome, keep the pics coming...could help other people. :)

I just

Just made a couple quick YouTube’s I hope to put up later lol. Remember this is my first time doing it so results may vary lol
Heck yeah, post those links I'd like to see what you're doing.
I only did like 4 trees when I tried it a few years ago.
Smith turned out the best.
I can't even remember which other trees I did. lol

Just finished up the second round of pollination, I used about 15 syringes worth of solution at 12 mls each. I hope this works out and I’ll probably get rid of my extra male trees with the lsu working out so well.

3 videos coming up by lunch hopefully. I may not be professional but I shared all the knowledge of these forums to make a video so everyone can learn what I’ve learned from this great resource.
