Growing fig trees from seed

I decided to finally plant these fig seeds that i got from Christain last fall. This is my first time trying to grow them from seed. Anyone have success with this? How many years until you got fruit?

I started growing them from seed a few years ago. Average should be 3 to 5 years seed to fig. But it can happen sooner. M.Gardener I believe grew seed to fig in one year. Most of mine I believe are on year three. Had one push out a fig and drop it. I won't pollinate any until I know if they are common or not. Seeds sprout sporadic. Some may sprout in a week others months to a year later. Give them time.

I'm trying some on a much smaller scale, but I have been gone for a few days so they may have dried out. lol
Plenty of dried figs to start over though.

It’s interesting for me to watch them develop, but only on a small scale. You are much more likely to find a good common fig. These are Enderub x Panache.

Your seedlings look exceptionally healthy.

I’m curious to see what the percentage is of decent tasting figs when two good parent figs are used

youd probably get faster fruit by grafting growth onto a mature rootstock. thats how most other breeders do it for fruit. you can sometimes get fruit 2nd year that way in like apples

That is how many fig breeding programs did it as well.

What are you feeding them. I have a few seedlings that need some extra care and love.

These were started maybe last November, picked out of a tray and transplanted to peat pots, then 3” round pots, then 6 in this larger pot. When they were small, they got just plant food. Now they get a little bone meal, pelletized lime, and a little 10-10-10. I think worm castings would be a great fig fertilizer, but pricey here.
