Okay, I was thinking the opposite that it would create almost like a buffer, and any excess water would drain easier into the perlite. The very bottom of each cutting is directly above the bottom perlite area that is 2 1/2 to 3 inches. So each cutting doesn’t go to the bottom of the bag.Good luck! FYI, the perlite on the bottom sometimes creates a perched table right above it. Causing a wet area where you don’t want it. You could go without it.

Thanks for the advice!

Oh man lolI thought the same way the first time I did it, except in cups. It doesn’t work like that after all. It as long as your not watering those pops you should be ok.

What the heck! And I watched several YT video's to boot!Another tip is not to make them so long. They don’t need to be that tall at all. Just 1-2 nodes under and 1-2 above. It’s easier to up
Pot and easier for the roots to fill up when they are shorter.
That’s the learning curve. Just keep notes of anything that works and what doesn’t. Worst case you kill cuttings and learn. Anything better than that is a win.I can’t believe how many things I’ve done wrong with my first fig pops…

Wow those are nice too!View attachment 20897View attachment 20898View attachment 20899
You get the idea.
Sometimes your top node doesn’t really do anything. And you’ll see a shoot trying to push through the bag. You can gently tease open a very small hole and it will push itself the rest of the way through. As it continues growing it will make a nice tight seal so gnats don’t get in and moisture doesn’t escape.

And yes, I need to up-pot my pops. Greenhouse Megastore is taking a while on my treepots. Possibly shipping it to me on a man with backpack walking here.
I hope that is not the case cuz I need more treepots as well.View attachment 20897View attachment 20898View attachment 20899

Oh no! My current batch of cuttings were started using a method new to me of having 1” of perlite in the bottom of the cup and scoring instead of scraping, and the cuttings have several nodes in soil. I did enlarge the holes in the bottom of the cups this time to allow better drainage. Any suggestions how to deal with the perched table? They were started 3/17 and roots too fragile to redo. Should I cut slits in the cup right above the perlite?Good luck! FYI, the perlite on the bottom sometimes creates a perched table right above it. Causing a wet area where you don’t want it. I would probably leave them alone and just be very careful not to over water and create a wet zone. I still had a high rate of success, but I did lose some to rot when I did that with the perlite on the bottom.Oh no!
