Figs 2025

I don't know what that white stuff is. Sometimes there is a lot of it. I thought maybe when the rain runs off the metal roof over the patio that something was dripping down onto the figs. I also thought maybe it could be excrement from all the leaf hopper sharpshooter insects. I will look at it more tomorrow in the daylight. You have a good eye.
Reminds me of Mealybugs. But hard to tell from the photo

Maybe nothing…, but better the things you know

@Figgin' A put me on to these pocket microscopes… This isn’t the same brand, but I don’t know that they’re all that different… I would’ve never known, but it helped me identify fig but mite on one of my trees.

If you can get one that connects to your cell phone that makes it even easier to get a picture of whatever you’re dealing with

Thanks, I am definitely interested in that. I will check it out.

I have one of those pocket microscopes I use at work. An old radio shack brand. Also, loupes are lying around everywhere. We look at the dots in the print screens. I’m thinking the magnifying glass will work a little better depending on zoom. Those microscopes really magnify and might be to much 🤷‍♂️ just don’t do it in the sunlight and burn hole in your tree….🤣

I am going to look at it later today with a magnifying glass but I really think that it is oxidized paint coming off the metal patio roof. I don't think it will harm anything as long as I wash the figs before I eat them.

This little fig may look pathetic but it's a huge milestone for me. It's the 1st ripe fig from the cuttings that were gifted to me from this forum. With all the junk that is online now days, it is so great to find such a nice community of fig growers that are so generous and willing to teach new fig growers. This fig is a Mavra Sika. It is a Mt Etna and one of Lou Monti's favorite Mt Etnas. The fig is small but they will get larger as the tree matures.
