Does anyone use it. I seldom use it now because I am an expert :ROFLMAO: but it is/was still a great website to check on varieties. I have seen Michael Fons post on fb but I dont know how often figdatabase.com get updated with new varieties.

I used to use it. But I dont like the way that it was gathering it's information. It's probably been a year since I visited the site. Felt like it was just grabbing bits and pieces of discussions and presenting it as fact.
It could be a great resource for variety reference.
I think Michael Fons and a couple others have privileges on the site, but it is owned by another guy.

I go on it periodically when researching varieties to acquire. The pictures are awesome. Every time I go on it, there are new pictures and descriptions.

I heard ross is putting together a variety list, interested to see how it compares. thefigjam.co also has a good one but ofc both are limited i think by what they each have tasted. I tend to just look at what people say on forums about it but I still use it occasionally to get those links (the bottom of the page will often have links to the other forum and various sites)

I looked at it a lot in the beginning but for some varieties the information seems like it comes from one person and sometimes the info is not complete. The danger with gathering info from one place is it's not representative of what it will be like in all places - and that goes for any website or video or blog. The experts out there say the most disappointing / worst thing you can do if you're growing figs is to grow the wrong one for you. You're going to spend so much time together so it's a shame to get one that's finicky about water if you live in a near constant drought (and you're scatterbrained like me and know you're going to forget it for a few days) or a late ripener if you live in an area with a short season.
So, i gather whatever basic information I can everywhere - including that site because it's organized concisely for some categories. Then I try to find the people that live in areas with close to my climate - if they say ia variety doesn't work for them I may still try a cutting but it helps set my expectations. And you can bet if someone in my climate says a variety works for them I'm going to try it. And I'm still going to realize that it's not foolproof and there may still reasons it doesn't work and things I need to tweak.
Just know I'm still new and this is just what logically makes sense to me.im totally not any kind of expert.

Well, My example would be how White Baca was written up last winter. I just checked and it's no longer listed at all.
I also noticed another different variety on the "white" page that is no longer named the way it is listed.
