Fig seedling community project

Dude this is amazing. If this is in spring count me in, i tried seeds and failed, do you have the crosses written down? Did you use persistent capris? Do you beleive millenial that most become common because of self aborting? From what ive read this is why lsu used the caprifigs they did because they were known to produce common females? I could be totally wrong but seems it worked for millenial. i have a pretty ridiculous indoor setup/small cold frame greenhouse/and can test hardiness once it gets to that point in zone 6b. This is amazing.
He used persistent Capri’s LSU DC2 an DC6. Which is the first breeding project I know of that has used them.

I could even send some seeds out for anyone to try now. I’m thinking 5 packs of random mixed seeds in bubble mailers with tracking to keep them safe for something like $10-12. I’d have to check into the cost to ship them before I set anything but willing to send out thousands for the community to try on their own, I know growing from seed feels like more satisfying for me.

I think it would be awesome to have a community based breeding project rather than the community depending on a few large businesses or schools to decide it will pay off for them. Many of the best tomatoes are thrown out of the commercial breeding because they won’t store or don’t grow uniformly. This means even the best tasting toms could’ve been tossed because they wrinkled or had different sized fruit. With this information in mind you should never believe it takes 10,000 seedlings to create one of something that’s great. Maybe 75% are great but they don’t have the commercial value to make the most money. For us we grow in our own yard and eat or prepare immediately which vastly opens the door to more cultivars that do well. Splitting could be an issue for sure but that doesn’t stop a lot of varieties from being popular as well.

I shared a video of these seedlings to my YouTube and was called out for “these are not figs, clickbait”. I hope you all know I’m 100% honest and transparent these will be figs and I will never try to hurt the community here that is almost like a second family. I want the our group to be known worldwide as the largest collective fig breeding group.

One data point for you. Just as a fun experiment and inspired a bit by Millenial Gardener, I planted fig seeds from Tinkerbug Figs 2 years ago. 10 sprouted and have grown into trees that are over 3 ft tall. None have produced fruit yet. It seem like now it’s just waiting for them to decide to produce figs and see what they taste like. Apparently it could take up to 4 or 5 years. I'm hope they decide to produce in the coming year. Best of luck with your project.
