Fig orchard complete…for now

If I'm not mistaken, Big Bill (OTBP) is in the same neck of the woods and he doesn't cover his figs. That's a good 6b/7a area, it's like Philly, that's a great 6b/7a area with all the microclimates going on.
Yea he is probably 45 minutes for me and he does not wrap his trees from what I remember seeing somewhere. I don’t plan on wrapping most of them this fall. Maybe a handful of them get wrapped. Last winter was extremely cold and most of my other inground figs froze to the ground with only 1 casualty ( Cavaliere ).

That's really encouraging! How many of the current list were inground during the terrible winter?

Some varieties yes but not all of them.
Can you please list some you’ve personally had success with. I’d put those on my short list in 7a.
Not many. I think black celeste, Edith raspberry, Angelito, 258, smith were the only ones.
thanks. I’ll definitely bump those up my list. From what I gather, those are awesome varieties even if they weren’t selected for hardiness.

How did Angelito do during this past winter, and your i258?

@TorontoJoe i258 does a great job in Canada but he puts some work into it. Phenomenal tree and encouraging for us in colder climates regarding i258.

They both made it through the winter but these were of the few that got protected. For winter protection all I do is put a metal cage around the trees, fill them with wood chips, and then place a trashcan over the top of them.
