Fig for Jacksonville FL

My wife would like to gift her parents in Jacksonville FL an in-ground Fig. Prefer vigorous and pest resistant (i.e RKN) and tasty but no need to for the latest hard to find variety. I would apprecite suggestions.

I don't really know if RKN is prevelant all over the state?
I'm not sure any would survive past a couple seasons in ground infected by them.
There are things you can mix into the soil though, Merigolds are said to be one.
But I believe they would have to be incorporated into the soil...not just grown near the tree?
We do have some Florida people here so maybe they can answer way better than I can.

I've read that LSU Purple is resistant to RKN but not immune. I think it's considered the best against RKN. A variety that is not fancy but a reliable work horse, I recommend regular Celeste. I'm not sure how it would do in Florida, or how it would do with RKN.

@GIV if you want to grow a fig tree on its own roots in RKN infested Florida then the LSU varieties seem to do the best, most especially LSU purple. Having said this, and knowing how much you like to graft I would say Ficus Sycamorous has the most resistant rootstock to the disease. Why not use this rootstock, and graft whatever fig tree you wish to gift your in-laws. Also it would be very meaningful because you would be showing off you're amazing Horticultural skills. The same could be said to a lesser extent for LSU purple root stock. Graft, and go where your heart leads you. Might as well make it a pair of different varieties.

I believe Strawberry Verte is reputed to be resistant to RKN. I can't say from first hand experience though.

If you really want to go down the rabbit hole, you might consider your favourite fig.... whatever it might be.... grafted to something that is resistant to RKN... Others can confirm but I think you can put any Ficus Carica to say, Ficus Sycamorus.... which won't be damaged in the ground.

I'm taking all this from memory and I hope it helps... but please confirm with others before investing significant time.

In-laws have had season tickets to the Jaguars. Fortunately for me, I don't have to worry about a disinterested owner that would like to trade the team for a new team in London. I was raised in Philadelphia, so my family bleeds Eagle green.

LOL - love that dig against the Jag cuz it's true.

Owners still make $$$ even if a team is at the bottom - FOR DECADES!

I felt your pain. Before J. Lurie (excellent owner) Eagle had Leonard Tose who lost the team from gambling debts and alcoholism, who sold the Eagles to a used car salesman (Bramen). Eagles were miserable from late 60's to mid 90's.

Was Dougie P. a good coach OR was he just riding off the talent of the players when the Eahles won their 1st SB?

He is a good person that is players coach. He works well with veteran leadership which the Eagles had until age and/or post super bowl money changed dynamics. He is adaptable and caught lightning in the bottle with Foles and RPO in its early days. After that year, NFL minimized RPO value by strictly enforcing the 1 yd downfield rule for lineman on pass plays. So, good coach, not great, but requires right team dynamics, which Jax ownership/GM does not help provide.

Has anyone tried grafting fig on any native Florida ficus? I know that in Thailand Ficus Racemosa is used with good success for most varieties. For anything that doesn’t work, you can just use an iterstem. Other rootstocks that people use are Iraqi and an Italian palmata type. It looks like the Palmata hybrid type might be more resistant as well.
