Feijoa (pineapple guava) in ground in zone 6b/7a

Ok, so this year I decided to put Feijoa in ground. Last year, I was able to overwinter it in a pot in unheated greenhouse without any damage. I guess it is still quite daring project, but I thought I would give it a shot. I decided to document it on my website and Youtube channel. There is no damgae, so far, but the winter has been very weak so far. We shall see. Normally, it should be hardy up to zone 8.

I'm still fighting with making the videos, not really good at it. Sorry for constantly moving with the camera, it's probably a bit annoying :D I guess children in our school will be happy with new upload, they have been asking me about a new video for some time :D

 
I've been wanting to grow Feijoa for a long time! - please keep posting. It's a nice video, and even though the camera shifts, you are hitting the goal of sharing the knowledge. Thank you.

Pushing the limits for growing zone can be fun and a challenge. Appreciate you sharing, we're in South Carolina, but I had a friend in HS who was an exchange student from Czech Republic. We planted two pineapple guava at our place in 2024, but no fruit yet, we did have a few blooms. (We're in 8a.)
 
I love zone pushing! I have one in ground in zone 7b. It stayed evergreen until it hit around 15, then it died back to the ground. This year I protected it and no dieback at all. It’s a very beautiful bush. I hear you need two for fruit so I think I need another one.
 
i have 4 pineapple guava that I keep in big pots. I currently have them outside, and stick them in my greenhouse if its going to be in the low 20s or less. I am very curious to test and see if they will survive and fruit in ground here (7b). I may plant 1 or 2 of them in ground this spring. What is the coldest temperature you have hit so far this year?
