This is refreshing because I just cleaned up my yard. I was having a rough season. I’m about 3 miles for Mexico, south San Diego so my weather doesn’t get overly hot but stays the same temperature. This season it didn’t get warm until mid July! I had a ton of coastal rust, the news of everyone getting bff here, Harvey wanting to retire & I lost my fig dog aka garden buddy to an accident last fall so I was feeling pretty blue. Seeing my yard look so bad & the crappy weather made me not want to go to the yard. I lost a lot of small rooted figs. It was okay because I have too many trees anyway. The weather picked up & my new dog oddly started finally adapting after a year! I like a small rat dog that can get around pots. I had heck at first bc she was chewing my trees & pulling off figs & bags! And my old dog I use to share figs. He was picky & only liked the best. My new girl prefers watermelon! Lol I guess I’m going to get fatter!
Yesterday I went into overhaul & pulled weeds, cut back trees & bushes & moved a bunch of trees. I thought wow I got more figs to bag! It gave me hope for the season still. I just started getting nice figs last week so I’m this site hit perfect timing! I cleaned the cement & bagged more figs today so I’m ready! It might seem late for some but I can get figs into December here. Unlike northern CA I can’t rely on the fig wasp. The wasp isn’t reliable here. I didn’t post much on the other sites but I often used the reference.
I prefer cold Hardy, berry, productive trees. If I have a tree that only produces a few figs a year..it isn’t worth real estate or my water here. I try to be as honest as possible about my result but I tell people to check with local veteran growers in your region for true results. I also want to add that I have two properties of figs & figs grow differently in both areas! I grow in pots so I always tell people pots usually can’t compare to in ground trees. Also maturity also matters. I try not to judge a tree until it is at least 5 years. It’s great when it’s excellent the first year! Anyway, most from Facebook know me but I hope to get to know more people! Let’s get figgin’!

Congratulations on the launch! Everything looks awesome and the place feels very comfortable. Thank you!
I have a renewed interest in taking more fig pictures! My love for figs has not waned. Since moving to South Florida we've simply discovered so many fruits that we love. We've also discovered that growing figs here is difficult. Not impossible, just difficult. The collection is still around 100 or so different varieties and we're slowly weeding out the varieties that don't perform well here. So, for now, here is a tree I discovered close to the beach house in South Jersey this past summer. I thought I had every fig tree in the neighborhood clocked. I went on a "fig walk" and discovered this beauty. Yes, I asked permission before picking figs. Breba were ripe and surprisingly very sweet. Each one was a meal! I love the contrast of breba from the unripe main crop. Will go back in Oct to pick those. Enjoy!

Wow I was going to just say hello to BlueEagle1967. When i saw NYCfigs was also in the house. As well as the fabulous (((FigTater))) I am a newbie so you probably never heard of me, but I am stoked to be in this figfanatic.com with you guys on the ground floor. All I had to do was have the faith of a mustard seed, and it seems I have fallen on fertile ground.

@Kid Fig thank you. Nematodes are probably the worst. There has been a ton of positive research using F. Sycomorous as nematode resistant rootstock. I am growing it now and it's ready to prune for cuttings. Also going to graft some on and air-layer.
This is a discussion I will start in a new thread. There will be lots of pictures. We just got home from a short vacation and I'm playing catch-up today. Have to drop a ton of seedlings off for the hort program at my sons' school, then makeup baseball games 2x this week for both boys. I will try to get f. sycomorous cuttings going this week. If not, I'll have them going by next week for sure. I'm dying to try this out!
