What are your favorite Summer and Winter squash varieties?

I have never grown zuchini, but I have always enjoyed growing Winter squash. This year, I am loving Red Kuri. Great size, beautiful, tasty, and productive.

My first zuchinis, I went with this season are Black Beauty, "Golden" , and Cocozelle.

I am open to suggestions if there are any "better" varieties.

I heard the Romanesco is pretty good.

Straight neck yellow have proved quick maturing and faster than crookneck for summer squash. We have serious disease & pest issues so by july summer squash is ravaged, done & over.

Tromboncino is my pick for winter squash. Butternuts were the go-tp for years but pests & disease dominate here. Tromboncino is said to be better resistant so we'll see how it goes.

Zucchini can join cherry tomatoes and leave my yard forever. See ya's!

Very cool. I am glad I went with the straight neck then.

I just looked up tromboncino. That is one funky looking squash. Looks fun to grow. Best of luck and happy growing.

This reminded me of David the Good 😄

Im trying black futsu winter squash. Along with old standby honeynut.

For summer I am abandoning zucchini because id squash vine borer. I am growing speckled snake gourd and partial eclipse which is a patty pan squash. The patty pan i am mostly growing under net but im trialing one outside.

I love some summer squashes, but have had very little luck here trying to grow them.
Mildew is guarenteed.
I tried a few things to prevent it but it always found a way.
I stick to winter squashes as they tend to do much better for some reason.
Most of the ones I'm trying out this year are new to me though...I'll have to find my list for names. :)

For anyone interested, I had my first homegrown Cocozelle zuchini and it was absolutely delicious.

Satéd with onions, salt, pepper, and (of course) pork lard. So good. I think this is a new staple for us.
