Ever have to hide anything you bought?

That is a huge tree growing out of a tree pot. I don't think I like the permanent foam idea - probably not compostable including the box sticking to it. šŸ¤” But shippers swear that is a solid way to pack plants.

Usually, they wrap the pots in plastics bags so that you can just rip the bags to release the pots.

Cutting is probably the easier way to evade detection as it fits easily in the mailbox.

Letā€™s leave it that it may be a very desired tree, that is not widespread and canā€™t be hyped too much yet because maybe only one or two other people have it (at this moment), that I know of, in the US.

Or maybe that paragraph above is just meant to bring intrigue to the conversation, throw you off the real identity of the provider and tree, and there is just a really anal shipper out there. If this will be a game, it needs to be hush-hush, and obfuscation and misdirection is fair play.

In fact, maybe this can be a game to bring donations toā€¦ Figfanatics! Iā€™ll ask the provider if they have interest so I donā€™t break any trust (or maybe I donā€™t have to ask permission because itā€™s an eBay buy). Lol.

I wonā€™t/donā€™t sell any tree or cuttings (I do give away cuttings and trade for postage).

There isnā€™t any profit motive for me to hype anything personally. I collect and share for joy and curiosity not profit - but I am all in favor of those who do this for whatever reason they haveā€¦ we can all be family.

And sometimes I just canā€™t wait and must bid or buy it now, then hide it from the eye rolls. So I need some sellers in my life occasionally. Cherry Bomb anyone?!? ā€¦No, I didnā€™t.

Iā€™ll post my variety list (excluding my two new foam-blasted acquisitions) when the game starts and will promise an air layer to the winner/winners of their selected tree from my collection. Only varieties without trading/selling restrictions will be offered as prizesā€¦

And I get to make up the rules and adjudicate any controversies!

I think this should be a Zoom live contest to bring us all together. What say you? Iā€™d love to meet some of you non DMV folks. BTW - remember September 13th is the DMV Figfest. But cutting that foam off made a mess, marked the trees as new because no other pots have foam on them , and I had to hide the evidence faster than I could move. I was panicking. Luckily Jeannie was really into her zoom call and it seems like Iā€™ve gotten away with it for now.

I think I have a problem.

I need friends to swear they just sent another gift and I had no choice in the matter. Anyone want to enter into a šŸ¤«šŸ¤pact?

Just kidding of course. Jeannie supports me and loves me. But I still feel like hiding them and the story above is true. Lol.

It's overkill for the perfectionist (compliment). The tree will not move in the box. This prevents damage by ensuring the foam expands into the pot and the tree is stuck in position. of course, nurseries don't do this. But it is a clever way of making sure a valuable tree doesn't float around in its box and get damaged.

In my experience.... fig people tend to be, if nothing else..... "exacting"
