Electric it is!

The recent talk of electric fence has pushed me to finally do it.
I have been juggling this for a while, but I'm not going to fight them all summer for my numnums.

This is the one I will go with, over 1.0 joules, and sheesh...I could protect 30 miles of fig orchard. lol
I will pick it up this weekend and set it up for my in ground fig trees at the back of the house.

Anyone doing it too?

Great idea, Kevin. I can't imagine fighting all those pests. I just don't have the time for it and they keep coming. I am installing one later this summer. I haven't seen any coons or possums yet, but they will be coming in late july/august, like they always do.

This is intriguing given the ongoing squirrel wars.

Will you be electrifying a fence with closely placed wires or can you use more of a wire panel/chain link fence? Just trying to picture how to keep smaller critters out.

I’d love to see pics once installed.

My fig patch would need two fences for the perimeter, which makes it pricey. I’ll wait to see how your method works. I’ve gotten pretty good at driving t-posts and stringing cable. 😁
I concur, that chicken type of fence is up there, I'll try the wire first and see how successful it is.
Technically I don't need it installed until main crop are ripening since all the breba are done.
But, my birthday is coming up quickly and my wife wants to get me the electric fence set up for a gift. :) lol

This is my first year growing figs but have used an electric fence to keep critters out of my vegetable garden. For my fig orchard, I recently setup a solar powered 0.1 joules unit that will have 4 strands. The highest at around 5.5’ to keep the deer out. I haven’t added the 4th strand yet at 4” off the ground for raccoons and possums since no figs had ripened yet. I’ll be installing that line this weekend.

You don’t need a lot of joules. My unit gives a nice shock, especially when I’ve bumped into it with a sweaty T-shirt. I’ve made some embarrassing yelps when that’s happened.

I’ll let you know if it effectively protects my figs.

I did some research on these fences and animals, I just seen where it recommended 1.0 for raccoon because of their persistence.
One good hit to change their minds sounds good in my book. lol

I am interested to hear how yours works keeping them out, look forward to your updates, Thanks
