Electric it is!

I awoke this morning to discover that five racoons raided my figs last night. Not only did they sample several figs, three of the youngsters climbed into my potted trees and did some damage. That was all the motivation I needed to finally install my electric fence. The electrified holding area is between two patio homes (zero lot line on that side of my house). The bed gets full sun from about 9 am until at least 3 pm. Then shade creeps from the back of the bed toward my house. (I have another bed behind my house, currently under 40% shade cloth, that gets full sun all day.)

That looks great, keep some updates coming.
I am still considering getting that kind too...so I'd like to know how it holds up to weather.
You going to put up trail cams?

I have an older Arlo home security camera system. One of the cameras I leave on a small tripod mount that I can move around the yard. Last night the camera caught a possum; but it didn't show any interest in the figs as it ambled through. Are we able to post videos in the forum or do they need to be hosted elsewhere with a link?

I upload mine to YT, then link it.
I'm sure there are other hosting sites but don't know any off the top of my head.

Possums not showing interest in figs? :) I think he was just tricking you into a false sense of security. My backyard was raided by hordes of hungry possums over the past two seasons. They loooooove figs.

I think his disinterest was only because there were no ripe figs. The racoons got there first the night before.

Raccoons are vigilant and super smart.... Please keep us posted on how this goes...

... as many here know, my only way of managing them has been to find them new homes.... at a distance from my garden

I’m fighting rats brother. I set 6 rat poison feeds around my whole backyard. I baracard my shed with concrete around my shed because they’re trying to live under my shed. There so smart they started digging a tunnel system 2-3 ft and 2-4 inches deep away from the shed because they figured concrete was blocking their entrance

I'm shocked there are so many up your way. Being outside of the city I can't imagine where they all came from...

4 year ago they was a feed supplier and ended up burning down literally 5 min away from the residence. All the rats that was living there, scattered. Ever since we’ve been getting infested.

I keep saying “get rat terriers”. They are highly efficient at hunting rodents. They really enjoy the hunt.

This is a video I saw some time ago of a farm that was infested with rats in the field. They tunneled and nested in the fields. The farmers had to use the rat terrier’s to clear out so many rats. I tell you those dogs are thoroughly efficient.

That’s crazy! Be a bunch of work digging that whole field with shovels. I’d just plow it daily until they left….lol
