I wonder if you can use the heated coil for the ground. Circulate the coil on the ground around the tree and cover it up with mulch.

I haven’t even got started with anything on my trees. It’s a bit nippier more north here. I usually get my trees out in the temporary gh but I’m getting held back by the weather. Haven’t had a good day to build it yet damnit.

There are heating cables designed to do just this…. to be buried and keep tree roots warm. It’s something I’m seriously considering next time I drop a tree in the ground.

Imagine how quick you’d be able to wake up an in ground tree

Sounds like an interesting idea. I also like the idea of using geothermal heat, as shown in this video, to keep the trees warm during cold nights.

Soil temps seem to be the struggle with in ground trees up here.... at least in terms of early wake up.... The real upside to this is that because the ground temps seem to stay warm longer... keeping them from going dormant much later than container trees....

I think we're on to something.... I may be replacing in in ground tree to try this... I'm just not looking forward to digging the hole.

Wow 🤩!! I mightt consider this idea. Im gonna see how my tree produces this season first before I decide to do this, but I think it will actually work l.

Right!?!?

Now all I need is someone who is willing to be paid in vino and soppressata to come over and dig me a big hole! 😆

An another successfull electrification.
Four in ground fig trees. First one is Fico Bianco, Little Miss Figgy, Black Mission. The three was winter protected with Pipe heating cable, wrapped around with pink insulation followed with another 3 layers of black insulation, because (that is all I had plus it's self supporting which is what i needed), plastic tarp, all covered with DeWitt ground cover white fabric.
All are 100% success.
Last 3 pictures is Dalmatie ( very bad looking espalier) but working on it.
On this one, is doing the best, lifhts kept it warmer then the pipe heating cabel. I used Christmes lights 12 in line.
I keep covering them every evening with DeWitt ground cover material, but I do keep Dalmatie warm with the light at night or if it's cold windy day.
Pictures are from yesterday.
I unwrapped all of them on March 6 removed cabels and black induction and plastic tarp, and lightly wrapped it with DeWitt.
Now comes the hard part, keeping them warm enough so that they don't drop brebas.

I promise… you are never bothering me 🙂

If you’re having this issue, it means other people might be as well and I want to solve it.

What happens if you try to attach the image using the attach file button here?
