Don’t be shy, name your top fig of 2024?

This one is difficult for me... I had many of the top figs that one could be lucky enough to grow. Smith, NdR, I-258, Prosciutto, HdA and more....I'd had these for a few years so it's difficult to say... but I think top NEW fig for me was a tie between Vince #3 for being awesome in the cold, and  Siblawi I maintain that if I had named this one it would be, "banana popsicle"

IMO, some of the most underrated figs... Bissiri #3 and Impellizzeri

Consistently at the top are WM#1 and Angelito

This is difficulty... so many good figs that that take time to develop

@"TorontoJoe"#1 .Wow I would have thought Exquisito. See you sold me 100% on that variety and it didn't seem to make your top 10 this year. Though I have been dreaming of rooting it, since you first posted this year on the variety.

LOL @"Figology"#21 I won't be shy I already know what my favorite fig of the year was... I will give you a hint there were two of them, both Wild, and caprified.

Meanwhile Figology. It might have been your new Avatar that did the trick. But I need to thank you for the late summer figpop idea, with Uline bags. We already have some good roots showing, and these are very big bags. Great late summer propagation technique, it sure beat my success rate with Rosy's grocery bag technique, from the (OF) old house. I would have thought it was far too late in the season to try fig pops...

Hm....oddly enough, what was supposed to be a De la Roca but turns our it's not...I believe JMF75 was correct in his assessment that it looks to be Borjasotte Noir...yea that was my best one.

@"Figology"#21. Okay I've kept you in suspense long enough. It was Superstar, Sacramento CA adventurer and Figfanatic member @"Chato9b"#70 Pink Tye Dye. A wild California find whose taste I cannot forget. There was a another 1st place winner, a edible male Capri fig who was also a 1st place winner at @"Chato9b"#70 /Jesus wild fig tasting event at SouthTahoe Park Sacramento. These two figs were the best of the year. To be honest, maybe of my life. I am certain the edible male does not need to be capified to untie your shoes at the first bite.

I still haven't had the chance to properly assess a Angelito, which was only decent in it's first season, it didn't produce this year.
Vince #3 looked great.

That's an all around good fig.

The only bad thing about new chance seedling finds is not many people have tried them. I'm glad you and probably a group of people got to try them.

I wonder if the wasp eggs in the caprifig contributed to the flavor, like caviar?

Figs change from year to year, some better or worse than the year before. Plus there's always animals and nature that don't let you get any figs for comparison.

I'm surprised that Grizzley was my favorite two years in a row. The prior year I found one half dried on the tree. It was fantastic with a grape flavor- knock your socks off.

Portugal 80 for taste. Nerucciolo d' Elba for split resistance. Pasteliere earliest variety with best taste.
Come on folks you can't just pick one. And Smith for most reliable when you need a pick me up lol 😆

Ive got some really cool varieties that everyone talks about, but they are mostly young trees with many fruiting for the first time, so the quality of that fruit is understandably less than can be expected in later seasons.
Two that i have mature trees of and really stood out were  Carrillo UNK  and  White Madeira #1

This is a tough one!  There were definitely some goods ones this year.  But if I have to pick my top fig of 2024, I would say that it is still Smith...two years in a row.  Although I have to say, I finally got 4 ripe figs on my still very young Black Madeira KK tree and I understand now why many people rave about this one.  Great flavor and love the interior color.  It is a young tree and there were only 4 that ripened in time this year, but I have high hopes for next year and this one might even beat out Smith next year... :)

Preto was pretty good for me this year. It's a tiny 2 foot tree in a 5 gallon pot. It must get much better as it ages and especially in-ground.
