The wild one here is pretty invasive. I have it and a muscadine growing on top the chicken coop.@GoodFriendMike Are they pretty invasive once they are established or are they pretty easy to control? I think the vine looks very nice and the flowers are awesome. But I am hesitant to "harvest" any from nearby and plant it in the yard, since I wasn't sure about that.
The edulis passion fruit, grows very quickly and loves to climb on things. Once established, most of my energy is spent harvesting and preventing vines from growing on top of plants/trees and smothering as well as extending into neighbors yards. 2-3 times each summer I need to trim vines, easy work.@GoodFriendMike Are they pretty invasive once they are established or are they pretty easy to control? Wow! That Mojito sounds good! I've just eaten them plain and thought they were quite good. I could see where they would make a great Mojito or maybe just plain juice also. I'm thinking that passionfruit might make a good wine, although it might need some added sugar to get the right fermentation and desired alcohol level. We have Edulis (Fredicks, red rover, other varieties of Edulis) in the entire fenceline surrounding our back yard. Sweet/Tart flavor. Many uses beyond straight eating. My favorite is Passion Fruit Mojito ( Passion fruit, 1/2 lime, mint, Carbonated water with sweetener and alcohol to taste). Prolific grower in ground (zone 10a). Struggles a bit in pots. Lots of hard seeds, that you either need to slurp with your drink etc. or separate (soft paddle quisenart) for passion fruit curd etc. They are just starting to ripen now.
@Smokymist Great topic. I'm glad you brought it up!I am mildly interested lol, something new I guess, but does anyone grow it specifically for the fruit ? If so, what are good varieties ? I'm in Zone 7b
