Discussing tulips and convincing everyone to eat their Hostas.

To be honest I don't know what all we have , my wife deal more with the flowers.
I know we have hostas, gardenias, lillies, roses, and a few others....not sure about tulips though.

I love daffodills. My grandmother had them in her yard and many folks grow them down here because they are so prolific and the first signs of spring.

@snarfing you are certainly becoming one of my favorite members. Now I have to look up hostas, and see if I want to eat them too. LOL I used to grow tulips as a child, and go door to door in my neighborhood with my red Radio Flyer wagon selling my tulips to the neighbors. OMG I just looked hostas up... A shoot that looks, and taste like asparagus that is just waiting to be wrapped in bacon.... YESSS I will grow them.

I may have heard that before, but have not tried them.
How do you prepare them?

Theres a lot of ways to eat them, but you can eat the whole first flush of shoots and you will get a second flush on an established plant, so no worries about your garden looking bad. Their texture is awesome, cook them like you would asparagus! I have also heard the flower stems are quite good but I have not tried that yet :)

Well....gonna have to try them next spring. 😁

Have you noticed any taste difference between variegated vs regular and small vs large?

I have about a dozen spread throughout the yard that seldom reach maturity and flower due to rabbits eating them. Since I’m used to them not flowering, maybe I can eat them before the rabbits?

Mostly textural. I havent tried any of the giant varieties but I prefer a thicker shoot. I dont think this should in theory stop it from flowering.

Never tried a variegated one. Its kind of a challenge to get people to let me eat their hostas unsurprisingly so have only tried the ones my mom grows and a few at parks
