Diluted Fert in Rooting Medium

Hello everyone!

I’ve seen a few people mention hydrating rooting medium with a diluted fertilizer right away. Something like a 1/5 to a 1/4 strength. Does anyone have any experience with this?

Thanks,
Jon

I started doing 1/4 tsp of MiracleGro AP or equivalent and 1/4 tsp of epsom to hydrate the medium. Am I seeing a significant change before adding the diluted fertilizer to the soil, probably not.

Thanks for the replies! Going to start some fig pops here soon with some cuttings I would very much like to root. More so than any others. Didn’t want to fub anything up 😂

Welp you’re already screwing up bud. You’re telling people which are the important ones and you are making a fuss lol. Treat them like any other cuttings if you want them to live. Ask around how many expensive cuttings have died while freebies lived 😭

Of everything I have actually purchased, about 90% died (this was early on and it was only about 8 total cuttings). Of the freebies/trades that I've tried rooting, my success rate is around 85%, but the ones that died were the fancy ones.

I use diluted Jacks 20-20-20. You can see the leaves get greener.

Such is the way of cuttings lol don’t feel bad though the ones I wanted most are the ones that rotted or got eaten by gnats. Ones that are cool but not top picks or that I have many of are doing amazing
