Cull 2026

As I get ready for the 2026 fig season, it’s time to cull some underperforming or duplicate trees. I was able to find homes for the following trees locally:

Cdd Noir
Rubado
Jolly Rancher
Corazan de Bahia
Malta Black
Deanna
Blava Flor
Raspberry Tart
Honey Plum

Hoping to downsize another 20 or so to make room for some new trees. What’s everyone culling this spring?
 
Culling for me is to put them in ground either in my backyard or at my friend’s orchard. So far, I’ll be planting RGR, YLN, MBVS, Fignomenal, Cileigia Dolce, Little Ruby and Caralheto Peto. I might put a duplicate Campaniere in ground in the best location.
 
I have Rubado. Not prolific but very tastey. This will be year 3, hopefully it will provide more than just a few. What disapointed you about Rubado?

interesting, to me putting it in the ground is the highest honor, do you do this with figs you do not like or do like?

really interested, its on my lsit for a maybe since I like more acidic figs. agree on rubado which i was quite excited for.

It was ok, obviously with any of those California figs, they never look as good out of fig wasp country. If you let it hang for awhile you could get those hints of cherry candy but nothing nothing to crazy. I just mentioned this with Rubado but I would say NV1 has more of those candy flavors, my kids call it the fruit roll up fig.

I probably am not the biggest honey fig fan but I would say the flavor was pretty mild then say compared to Lockes 1945. That one to me is like biting into a warm honeycomb. Deanna is more sweet then honey if that makes sense. Deanna is a vigorous grower though.

Being basically in the same are can you give me a list of all the trees youve culled in the past for reasons like rubado. if you have it or could put it together. I would super greatly appreciate it i have 100ish figs and will need to cull some after this year.

Yea Im working on that, culling figs is hard sometimes. But last year after moving over 170 pots to the greenhouse I told myself I wasn't doing that again. I would like to get down to 100 total pots so I will be planting about 50-60 trees in ground and continuing to cull trees.

Awesome thanks so much i would love to see that, save me some trials also. I woke up some late ones this year indoors under good grow lights and have some older trees but everythings in pots, i also dont want to be moving 100+ pots with a bad shoulder. I dont have much room for ingrounds figs but have a 8x12 greenhouse and a cold basement to store them. I also like to keep adding new so obviously with limited space i will have to cull some other late season varieties to incorporate new ones. Im basically out of room already. Thanks in advance

Sounds like its getting out of hand already. Well same feeling i have vincenzo cuttings and i have no idea where they are, checked the box nothing checked the grow room rooted cuttings nothing, checked the fridge nothing... im real confused on where they went. I 1000% made 2 figpops of it.
