I was always wondering how some of the varieties from Pons get so popular, but you hear nothing about the others, which turns out to be a lot better than other popular ones.

Yes, I also love Coll de Damas, De La Roca, Martinenca Blanca, Hivernenca etc., but there are some gems that I think are worth looking into. Is there anyone that grows Bányols and has some more information about it besides the info from Pons. Based on what he writes I decided to pick it this year, but others experiences would help a lot.

Couple of years ago I picked up a variety named "Des Far (Cala Figuera)". I had not expectations, I just picked it up because of its story, although the description of the figs made it pretty appealing to me. And it is indeed very interesting and hardy variety. It also has very interesting leaves and the figs have decent size and pretty interesting flavor. I would say it is like a mix of sugar and honey fig. Unfortunately, I don't have any photos, but I will try to take some this summer. I currently have 2 trees of it.

It just keeps me wondering what other great varieties are in his collection that nobody reported about. To be honest I personally much rather buy cuttings that nobody has, so I can evaluate them on my own. That's why I have the majority of Pomona gardens catalog :D Pons varieties are a bit trickier to get, since Mr. Pons is not the greatest in internet communication, but you can get them pretty easily anyway (at least here in Europe).

You’re so lucky to be in Europe to be able to have access to be able to buy some of the lesser known cuttings directly from the source.

I would **love** to try those lesser known varieties, but they are just much harder to find here or very pricey.
