Artichoke experiment

Very interested to see how this goes. I am about to plant out some seeds, then vernalize the young plants. If I can get around that and keep some crowns dormant all winter and just plant them out again it would be awesome. @ZomVee what medium did you pack them in? I was thinking some damp sawdust or coir when I do mine.
I had a pot a fig died in and I think I grew something else in…can’t remember but it was soil…

Damp sawdust…that’s interesting, like big box bare root trees…hmmmmm

Yeah, we have a long winter here. I was trying to think of ways to minimize rot since these will be dug up and stored for such a long time. My other thought was densely planting a bunch of seeds in a big pot in late summer/early fall. Then letting them go dormant, keep them in the garage and plant them out after last frost. That way I avoid having to start seeds and vernalize in early spring.

I was so done with pots that I did like a complete cold turkey, shut off, but I like your idea!

I was in San Diego my whole life, lots of watering pots....now that I'm out here and it rains I was enjoying the freedom hahaha
