Sorry this is not a fig related post but a couple of friends gave my husband a package of deer meat and a package of deer tenderloin/backstrap. I’ve never cooked deer meat before but there’s got to be someone on the forum who hunt and eat deer meat.

Venison backstrap is good, cook it luke you would a good steak. Sear it on hight heat, you can grill it or do it including a cadt iron pan. Just keep in mind deer meat is lean so you want to eat it med or med rare because if you cook it took much you will dry it out. Some sautéed mushroom and onions and your good

Cook the tenderloin the same way you cook pork and beef tenderloin. Pan searing the tenderloin like steak is great as well. Medium even medium rare is how I like it. If I have ground deer meat, I'll make burgers or chili with it.
Also, chicken fried ground deer meat steak is good too.

Deer burger is best in chili or spaghetti in my opinion. If that is back strap, chicken fry it!!! Oh so good!!! I cut backstrap into 1/2 inch slices, beat with meat clever, season, flour, egg, flour, hot grease until light brown. Just cannot beat southern style chicken fried venison backstrap!!

Tenderloin and backstrap are two different pieces of meat. Tenderloin is Filet Mangion in Beef Backstrap is like NY strip in Beef.

Don't over cook it, Meduim Rare is the best temperature, cut it into medallions, rub some steak seasoning on them and pan sear. They'll cook quick.

By the way, you have good friends they gave you the best cut of meat in the deer

Deer loin wrapped in bacon and smoked is the best way. Cooked too long and it dries out fast, the bacon helps with this, and also eat it hot and fresh. Reheated really doesn’t work well for deer meat.

For the ground we use ground deer in everything in place of ground beef.
