Anybody Bee Keeping?

I wish, but judging by my allergic reaction to other types of insect stings, bees and I cannot be close friends. That being said, we got the HOA to approve pulling up the grass in our front yard and planting drought tolerant Texas native plants that attract bees, hummingbirds, butterflies, etc. We also have a very friendly yard in terms of not using chemicals beyond what's in our miracle grow garden soil in the raised garden beds and containers. We're a bit late in the season, but we're also sowing Texas native flowers in the next week or so in the landscape beds. We get tons of bees and dragonflies in addition to butterflies, moths, and birds!

I don’t understand, if you and bees cannot be friends why are you planting plants that would attract them?

Great question! I've never been stung by a bee, only those vicious as sin southern red wasps and jellow jackets. Since I do not have definitive proof of a bee allergy (and carry 2 epipens), I'm willing to risk it for the good of my garden and pear, nectarine, and other trees. In theory, I like the little guys...lol they're short and chubby like me and look cute in black and yellow.

That being said, I do run like hell when I see bees and stopped wearing my favorite perfume when I'm working outside.
