Almost out of Room

I was able to get everything in the ground yesterday, plus a couple more rooted cuttings / small trees. I planted basil in same location as last season, so I should be able to determine if my efforts of RKN management was successful as the basil was full of galls by seasons end.

In the vegetable garden area I planted cucumbers, peppers, tomatoes and marigolds. Beans were sowed yesterday and mushroom spawn was spread in background between blackberries.

One mistake (of many) I made last year was planting Ciccio Nero in center of iris bed. This location gets full sun from 10:30 to sunset, but since the tree died to within a foot of the ground, it will be 100% shaded by the irises for awhile longer.

Is the hardware cloth a full basket around the root ball?
In the first picture, yes. I make a cylinder and bury it at least a foot deep, open bottom.

In the third picture, no. The cylinders are just for rabbits or other animals digging. The cylinder in background used to be buried along with concrete rings, but I dug them out as roots were circling the inside of concrete rings.

All of my trees have hardware cloth cylinders above ground for rabbits, but only the ones I protect or will be protecting have hardware cloth extending below ground too.
