We set about 140 airlayers yesterday and today and plan to set another 60 tomorrow.

Temperatures are still Highs in the mid 90s°F lows in the upper 60s.

Looking at the forecast for South Arkansas, lows in the lower 40s are expected here in about 8 weeks, with mostly mild (mid 80s dropping into the 70s for daytime highs) temperatures forecast until then.

Are we too early? Or too late setting airlayers (we still have 10 days in the 90s so it's still summer heat here).

I have a couple to set, I think there may be time.

But.....time for roots to harden before dormancy?...or even the wood.
I think they may need a little more attention over the winter.

I'm going to try anyway.
Not even close to the number that you set but a few.

You should have enough time to have most of them ready. Often, it depends on how easy the variety would root (similar to rooting cuttings). Some varieties send out adventitious roots more easily than others.

Like Joe said, the worst case scenario is the rooting would pick up in spring if it isn't completed by the end of the season.

Only about 40 are on in-ground figs (and we set those first), the rest are in pots that could go inside before they go dormant - although I was planning on leaving them out till the sap was down for taking cuttings.

We will see...time will tell :)

Thanks for all the feedback guys!

I’m not setting anymore in Z7b but hoping to remove a few AL from (2) tall trees before the end of the month. They are currently too tall to be put in the shed for storage.
